Game consoles have become commonplace in most households across the country. Gone are the days of Atari or even Nintendo 64. The standards set by those original champions of gaming have been totally destroyed by the XBox 360 and the Playstation 3. Games are becoming more complex and the rat race to see who can produce the best system seems to be never ending. Graphics look astonishingly realistic and the additional options on each game console have been unheard of until now. Spend a minute listening to either Microsoft or Sony's advertising campaigns and you may believe you've been jettisoned into the future. Both systems are advanced and their releases were highly anticipated, but they do have their differences. Taking the time to compare the XBox 360 and the Playstation 3 may be the best way to determine which game system is right for you at the moment.
PlayStation 3
The Playstation 2 by Sony was remarkably advanced. Going with the "if it's not broken, don't fix it" theory, much remains the same with the Playstation 3, only better. The PS2 had graphics that surpassed all others. So does the PS3, only even more so. One of the most hyped features of the PS3 was the high definition Blu-ray DVD player. At the time of its release, there was no other Blu-Ray player that sold for anywhere near the price of the Playstation, they were much more expensive. Playstation 3 brought Blu-Ray discs to the mainstream and it is still where most people play their Blu-Ray movies from. The processor of the Playstation 3 is much faster and stronger than the PS2. The system is not nearly as shaky now and gamers can lose the fear of the console crashing as they reach the climax of a game.
There are a few downfalls with the Playstation 3 when compared to the XBox 360. The PS3 does not offer nearly as many games as the XBox. Games are also more expensive with the PS3, so if you fly through games quickly or only play them once, this may be something to consider. The built in Wi-Fi network offered through PS3 is okay, but nowhere near as impressive as the XBox 360. There simply aren't as many options with the PS3. The PS3 sells for about $499 and is the more expensive of the two gaming consoles. It is, however, a powerful system for single person games.
XBox 360
The XBox 360 changed nearly everything from its predecessor, the XBox. The look is much sleeker and more convenient. XBox 360 offers thousands of themes that can be customized. Gamers can now make their game console completely their own. Games that were available for the original XBox are compatible with the XBox 360 so there are many more games that have already sparked interest available for the XBox 360. This is a huge selling point, as what's the point in having the best game console available if there are no games to play on it? The XBox 36o plays HD-DVDs, if you choose to purchase the $200 add-on. The Wi-Fi network offered through XBox 360 is the best available. Connections are strong and several options are available for you to play around with.
On paper, the PS3 looks more powerful and versatile than the XBox 360. However, consensus seems to say that the XBox 360 is more affordable, has better graphics, more support, and more potential for the future. When comparing the PS3 and the XBox 360, the majority of gamers prefer the XBox 360.
